Verizon Trademark “One Talk” Hints Mobile, Landline Combination

Verizon, a leading network carrier in the US, filed a trademark application for a “One Talk” service which hints at a potential move from the carrier to integrate fixed and mobile services. The network’s trademark application states- “Telecommunications services, namely, providing telephone services; and providing a unified system of integrated fixed and mobile voice services where landline and mobile communications devices can take the same calls, use the same telephone numbers and share the same calling features such as voice and text messaging.”

Verizon’s trademark application, reported by Phandroid, indicates the network’s plan to offer a service that would allow its landline and mobile customers to seamlessly shift their conversations to and from the company’s wireless and wireline calling services. The Phandroid report states- “We imagine the company will require a special home phone to take full advantage of the feature, though it’s possible the call mirroring options could be made available no matter which phone you use. Although many people have moved to mobile phones for their primary communication needs, there’s still a big crowd of folks who subscribe to home phone service, else availability of those services wouldn’t be as plentiful as they are today. For those people, using your phone while you’re at home doesn’t need to be a watered down, ancient experience — make it just as smart and convenient as if you were using a smartphone, and we’re happy.”
And, Phandroid also said that such services are already hitting the market. Last year, AT&T detailed its “NumberSync” technology that is designed to allow customers to share their primary phone number with other connected devices such as smartwatches, even if their phone isn’t connected to a cellular network.
Also, in March, Google announced its Fiber Phone service, which builds on the Google Fiber Internet and TV service to create a triple-play service offering. Shiver-Blake said “Your Fiber Phone number lives in the cloud, which means that you can use it on almost any phone, tablet or laptop.” He further added, “It can ring your landline when you’re home, or your mobile device when you’re on-the-go.”

AT&T’s New Android App Enables Texting from Landline

At&t Many consumers still pay heavy bills for their landlines. Most of them are either business owners or elderly. There are still some who use landline and in some cases it is considered necessary. And, if you feel landlines aren’t worth the trouble because they can’t even be used for texting, then you are wrong. AT&T’s new Android app lets you send and receive text messages using your landline.

The official AT&T Android app is not just a text messaging service but is exclusively used for those who pay an extra amount to enable sending and receiving of text messages from their landline. However, they aren’t paying extra at all for this app. It simply costs them $10 for 100 messages a month, or $25 on top of whatever they are already paying for the landline bill in the first place. Although the Android app is a virtual message bucket, it also includes some advanced features like auto-reply, scheduled text and also a call function. It is still not clear if it is a VOIP or a reroute solution that makes this work from their landline number.

The app makes a lot of sense if you are running a large scale business. So this pricey add-on would allow business owners to cater to more of their communication needs. Another major advantage includes that the app is free but only for AT&T landline customers. AT&T obviously hopes that the new Android app helps in making a drastic change in business communication.

Cumberland County Wants to Know Verizon Network Issues from Customers

Are you having problems with your landline? If yes, Cumberland County officials want to know what the problem is.

network issues

The county has recently set up a form on their website for Verizon home phone subscribers allowing customers to submit any issues related to service or any other problem they may be experiencing. The county comprised of 16 communities in South Jersey announced that the reports compiled will help its consistent effort to ensure the telecom company Verizon New Jersey doesn’t abandon copper services in South Jersey.

Last month the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities filed a joint petition last month demanding that Verizon standardizes its network and maintains the copper infrastructure in its communities. The displayed form requires customer’s personal information and asks a few questions regarding the home phone service issues along with the date on which they encountered the problem. Other questions include, “what did Verizon do to resolve the problem?” and “Did Verizon contact you or come to your home to remedy your service issue? If so, what specifically did they do or say. Please be as detailed as possible providing this information.”

Once the user has finished the form he can submit it. The group of 16 municipalities, from Atlantic, Salem, Gloucester and Cumberland counties, have been engaged in a fractious battle against the major telecom company -Veri        zon. This battle has been fought for the past 2 years over basic home phone services in South Jersey. Plus, the group of municipalities hopes that BPU ultimately holds a public hearing where both sides will be given equal opportunity to present themselves in the case.
